UNT Philosophy & Religion Official Statement #BlackLivesMatter

The UNT Department of Philosophy and Religion supports the impassioned protests taking place in Denton, around the nation, and around the world in response to yet another act of dehumanization and violence against an African American citizen. We mourn the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Atatiana Jefferson, Darius Tarver, and so many other Black Americans. Black lives matter. We recognize that this type of systemic violence, which is in continuity with deep planetary exploitation, must be addressed with long-term commitment to reform. We pledge to teach, write, think, deliberate, and act to demand justice for all peoples and the planet.
