Pete Gunter was the first chair of the newly minted philosophy department at the University of North Texas in 1970. In addition to his work advocating for the Big Thicket, Pete helped to lead the philosophical community at UNT on the path of Environmental Philosophy or, as he called it, "Texas Land Values." He is internationally recognized for his scholarship on the work of Henri Bergson, publishing articles and books about the importance of Bergson long after he retired in 2004.

Besides his academic and activist work, Pete was known to tell a good story and sing some very funny songs. Here is a link his writings, his philosophical works, and his music.

Pete is survived by his wife, Liz, and his daughter, Sheila.
