Rabbi Geoffrey Dennis is adjuct instructor of Rabbinics in the Jewish Studies Program at the University of North Texas. He is also rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami in Flower Mound, Texas. His areas of expertise include Midrash, Jewish esotericism, mythology, interfaith relations, medicine and healing in the Jewish tradition. He is a contributor to the Encyclopedia of Bible and Its Reception (De Gruyter). His articles have appeared in Parabola: the Magazine of Myth and Tradition, Journal of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care, and The Journal of the Anthropology of Consciousness. His most recent article, "Purity and Transformation: The Mimetic Performance of Scriptural Texts in the Jewish Ritual of Taharah" will appear in the Journal of Ritual Studies in 2012.
His book, The Encyclopedia of Jewish Myth, Magic, and Mysticism, has been honored as a runner up for the 2007 National Jewish Books Award.
Prior to teaching at UNT beginning in 1999, he taught for the University of Indianapolis and for Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPIU).
