Join us for Professionalization Workshop #2: Teaching Asian Philosophies, with Dr. Kalmanson.

We'lll discuss how issues regarding diversity in the philosophical canon can play into your experiences on the academic job market. Increasingly, new hires, regardless of individual specializations, are encouraged to teach core classes (such as Intro to Philosophy, Ancient Philosophy, Ethics, etc.) with an eye toward diversifying the curriculum. We will explore existing online resources that may be helpful to you. I will also go over a few modules on topics in Buddhism and other East Asian philosophies that are relatively easy to incorporate into existing syllabi, and I'll go over the background reading you'll want to do to feel comfortable teaching this to undergraduates. Feel free to bring along an existing syllabus that you'd like to work on.
