Rabbi Geoffrey Dennis is adjunct instructor of Rabbinics in the Jewish and Israel Studies Program at the University of North Texas. He is also rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami in Flower Mound, Texas. His areas of expertise include Midrash, Jewish esotericism, mythology, Judaism and Popular Culture, and ritual studies. He is a multi-entry contributor to the Encyclopedia of Bible and Its Reception (De Gruyter). His articles have appeared in Shofar: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Jewish Studies, The Journal of Ritual Studies, and The Journal of the Anthropology of Consciousness. His most recent article, "Avenged Seven-Fold: The Golem in European Cinema" is pending publication.
His first book, The Encyclopedia of Jewish Myth, Magic, and Mysticism, has been honored as a runner up for the 2007 National Jewish Books Award and is now in its 2nd edition. His second book, Sefer ha-Bahir, The Book of Brilliance, is out of print and sells on Amazon for $89.95.
Prior to teaching at UNT beginning in 1999, he taught for the University of Indianapolis and for Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPIU).
